Dear White People

Dear white people,

Please stop trying to speak for us non-white people.

Love,
Adan

The reason I say this is not because I don’t appreciate the support of the majority. I think you should be a key part in minority issues, I just don’t think you should try to voice our opinions. Let me give some examples. A situation occurred where some courageous student decided to wear American flags on Cinco de Mayo. They were sent home by Kim Lemos the assistant principal of the school. She, I think, felt that we Mexicans would be offended by this. As a Mexican, I don’t care what these students wear. She thought she was doing us a favor, helping us out. I think she overreacted.

This, of course, was not the end of the drama. While I was listening to Christian radio, the least offensive of conservative radio, I heard a very curious statement. They were discussing the drama with the high school students. The comment that was made was this, and I am paraphrasing. “We don’t celebrate Bastille Day, the French revolution, but we celebrate Cinco de Mayo because we have a rich history with Mexico.” Now I don’t think it’s just me, but the host implied that Cinco de Mayo was our revolution. Well for all those not paying attention during high school history classes, it’s not. Americans celebrate Cinco de Mayo because it gives you an excuse to drink. I celebrate it for the same reason, but it’s not a national holiday in Mexico, it is not our Bastille Day. The host was trying to help by justifying why we have a day dedicated to Mexicans, but he only ended up showing how ignorant he is.

Lastly I have to bash on my least favorite talk show radio host Erich Muller (Mancow). His comment is easily one the worst I have ever heard, and it is one of the reason we have the word racist. He commented to his black co-host, and I am quoting not paraphrasing, “You wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for slavery.” I’m sure I don’t need to explain that one.

All of these examples have one thing in common. All these people are trying to do minorities a favor. Kim Lemos was making sure Mexican weren’t offended, the Christian radio host was helping his white audience better connect with their Mexican brothers, and the Mancow was showing how much his people have helped in the creation of the African-American.

This is why we use the word racist. We don’t use the word when you don’t like us, or when you provide service to white folks first, we use the word jerk, along with others.

We do like the support just make sure you let us use our voice, and us get offended. We don’t need you to protect us from being insulted. We are strong people. I think we can handle it.

  1. Dear "Guardian",

First let me say that I appreciate your direct way of addressing your audience whom you've decided to engage as "white people".

Perhaps you should check some of the facts regarding the Cinco De Mayo incident in Morgan Hills. If you would review the news clips from the incident, you would realize that these students were asked to remove their American Colors due to concern that angry students would begin fighting. "The assistant principal asked them to take off their t-shirts or turn them inside out, because some hispanic students were upset and the school feared it would start a fight." please review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFW6uMJ-3IE
To misconstrue the situation, as an unsubstantiated response by "white people" in this case the principal Kim Lemos is hardly accurate. In fact if I were principal, I would be concerned with the volatile nature of such a display, but would not respond in such a way to stifle the freedom of speech of the students. But principals are responsible to prevent fighting if they feel that it could so easily ensue.

Why, would I or Kim Lemos, or any other sane "white person" be concerned with such a display of American Pride in such a heated situation. Not because I am concerned with how Mexicans interpret it on Cinco de Mayo, but because of the nature which they are prepared to respond in honor of their "pride and rights" when angry. You are likely un-aware that a few days prior, in Santa Cruz, a city not far from Morgan HIlls, riots occurred in which angry Mexicans destroyed restaurants and rioted in display against the new Arizona Immigration Law. Dozens of restaurants were destroyed, and anarchy ensued in defense of immigrant workers rights. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgAJw8Aln2E&feature=fvw
Following such a display in Santa Cruz, I feel Kim Lemos was smart to defuse the situation by sending these students home, perhaps it is better to stifle these patriotic students freedom of speech just to see that they do not get jumped in the parking lot, or possibly insight angry Mexican students to riot in the streets of Morgan Hills much like in Santa Cruz a few days earlier.

  2. Furthermore, our society has started to glorify the uprising of the Mexican people, and personally I fear that a race war is on the verge of being purposely orchestrated as a tool to enforce the "police state" upon the people, including the Mexicans. Robert Rodriguez releasing 'machete' features a migrant worker who exacts revenge upon the white people in a clearly "racist" way. This movie will cause a backlash response from both Mexican and "White People." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8cCzltPD6Y This movie is designed to stoke the race war fire that is on the verge of exploding.
The powers that control this world, our elite politicians and the corporations that fund them want you to be angry, they want the people divided, and they want to have a reason to patrol the streets with militarized vehicles to prevent "race wars and rioting". This only increases the power and control of these evil elite people. The industrial military complex will eventually be enforced upon the people, that is its ultimate "end". If fools such as yourself "guardian" are permitted to continue with such racial division and not speak out in opposition to violent demonstrations, the people will fight, the people will lose, and the elite will have a tighter grip on this racially divided culture.

Maybe you should stop being so insulted by the stupid quotes from the radio personalities which you hate upon and then extract meaning out of . The same hosts who are funded by the major corporations and political groups which want racial division in the people. To call someone "racist" because they try to identify with Mexican people by inaccurately making a comparison with French Independence day and Cinco de Mayo is absurd, its not racist its a simple mistake. The interjection of the word "racist" for any simple mistake or opinion on issues in todays culture is divisive and a simple straw man to shoot down. Lets stop the division!

    Love ,
